Parasite (2019)

All unemployed, Ki-taek's family takes peculiar interest in the wealthy and glamorous Parks for their livelihood until they get entangled in an unexpected incident.

Director's Personal Inspiration: Bong Joon-ho's experience as a tutor for a wealthy family in his early 20s inspired the film's premise. He drew from his observations of their lifestyle and the dynamics between the household staff and the family.
Originally a Play: Parasite was initially conceived as a stage play before Bong Joon-ho adapted it into a screenplay. He envisioned the story unfolding primarily between the Kim family's apartment and the Park's residence.
Hidden Visual Effects: Despite its realistic feel, Parasite contains around 400 visual effects shots. The second floor of the Park's house was often a CGI construct when viewed from the outside.
The Kim Family Home Isn't Real: The Kim family's semi-basement home and the surrounding neighborhood were built entirely on a set. The production team even researched houses slated for demolition to accurately recreate the look and feel of a poor neighborhood. The set was constructed inside a large water tank to facilitate the flooding scene.
Continuity Error on Purpose: During the "house party" scene, Ki-jung is seen eating jerky, and the hand she is holding it with changes between shots. Editor Jinmo Yang and Bong Joon-ho intentionally left this error in for fans to spot.
