Sirāt (2025)

A man and his son arrive at a rave lost in the mountains of Morocco. They are looking for Marina, their daughter and sister, who disappeared months ago at another rave. Driven by fate, they decide to follow a group of ravers in search of one last party, in hopes Marina will be there.

A Rave at the End of the World: The film has been described as a "rave at the end of the world", capturing a sense of existential desperation through the rave scenes set in the Moroccan desert. The rave is not portrayed as a party, but rather as a last-ditch effort for community, emphasizing the desolation and lack of spiritual fulfillment.
Risky Business: Director Óliver Laxe considered the riskiest part of the project to be the film's actual concept, as it disregards conventional filmmaking rules. He aimed to create a very different kind of film, which pleased him.
Non-Professional Actors: With the exception of Sergi López, the cast consists of real-life ravers, providing authenticity to their characters. The casting team dedicated a lot of time and effort, including trips to raves, to convince members of countercultural communities to participate in the casting process.
Desert Difficulties: The film crew faced intense heat and sandstorms while filming in Morocco. One sandstorm damaged most of the equipment and lenses, which resulted in extensive reshoots.
Super 16mm Choice: Director Óliver Laxe chose to shoot the film on Super 16mm film, contributing to the movie's sense of tangibility. This decision also showcased an impressive efficiency with time and budget, as the film was produced on an approximately $1.2 million budget.
