The Plague (2025)

A socially awkward tween endures the ruthless hierarchy at a water polo camp, his anxiety spiraling into psychological turmoil over the summer.

Director's Personal Connection: Director Charlie Polinger based "The Plague" on his own experiences growing up, where he struggled to fit in and witnessed others being ostracized. He drew from journals he kept during his time at summer camp.
Skateboarder Punk Casting: Kayo Martin, who plays the ringleader Jake, was discovered by the casting director on Instagram. Polinger saw videos of him "being a little skateboarder punk, making fun of people".
Edgerton's Dual Role: Joel Edgerton initially considered directing "The Plague," but ultimately joined as an actor and producer to help Polinger bring his vision to life. He also shadowed water polo coaches to prepare for his role.
Kubrick Influence: The film's visual style, including wide-angle lenses and symmetrical framing, was heavily influenced by Stanley Kubrick, particularly "The Shining" and "Full Metal Jacket".
Alternate Ending: One alternate ending considered for the film involved everyone else at the camp becoming "zombified" with the plague.
