Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist, brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.

To create realistic anatomical props, the production hired a "horror chocolatier" who crafted incredibly detailed human hearts and skulls entirely from chocolate. These edible props were customized to reflect specific characters and scenes, often confusing the cast and crew due to their lifelike appearance.
Director Guillermo del Toro banned typical Gothic clichés like gears, goggles, and top hats to give the world a more ancient feel. The costume designer aimed for a world that felt both historical and timeless, moving away from steampunk-inspired aesthetics.
Mia Goth plays a dual role in the film, portraying Elizabeth and a spectral version of Victor's mother. The mother's ghost haunts both Victor and William, adding a psychological layer to the gothic horror.
The Frankenstein family estate in the movie is a composite of four separate houses: Gosford House and Dunecht House in Scotland, and Burghley House and Wilton House in England. This seamless grafting created a believable and grand gothic setting.
