In the near future, a detective stands on trial accused of murdering his wife. He has 90 minutes to prove his innocence to the advanced A.I. Judge he once championed, before it determines his fate.

Pratt's Restraint Request: To fully embody his character's desperation, Chris Pratt requested to be physically confined to the execution chair during filming. He was cuffed at the hands, feet, and head to enhance the feeling of claustrophobia.
Found Footage Style: The film is designed as an advanced "found footage" movie, limiting the audience's perspective to available cameras within the film's world, such as body cams, dash cams, and security cameras. There are no traditional film setups or objective cameras.
AI Judge Inspiration: The director explored the idea of control with AI and how much say it could have over human lives when creating the AI Judge, who makes life and death decisions. The director wanted to explore the moral and social consequences of where AI is placed.
Near-Future LA: Mercy is set in a near-future Los Angeles in 2029, where a new governor implemented the "Mercy Court" to deter violent capital crimes. The goal was to get murderers off the streets and send a powerful message, with those convicted executed the day after committing a crime.
LED Wall Use: The production utilized the LED wall at Stage 15 at Amazon MGM Studios lot in Culver City.
