Roofman (2025)

A former Army Ranger and struggling father turns to robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs, earning him the nickname 'Roofman'. After escaping prison, he secretly lives inside a Toys “R” Us for six months, surviving undetected while planning his next move. But when he falls for a divorced mom drawn to his undeniable charm, his double life begins to unravel, setting off a compelling and suspenseful game of cat and mouse as his past closes in.

To prepare for his role as Jeffrey Manchester, Channing Tatum spoke with the real "Roofman" multiple times a week for four years. Tatum found Manchester to be a charismatic and warm person, even referring to him as "a big kid".
Director Derek Cianfrance cast many real people from Jeffrey Manchester's life in the film to create a sense of immersion and authenticity. This included the truck driver who unknowingly helped Manchester escape from prison.
The filmmakers rebuilt an entire Toys "R" Us store for the movie, highlighting the challenges and the commitment to creative excellence during production. The film also shot in Charlotte, North Carolina, as close as possible to the actual locations where the real events occurred.
Jeffrey Manchester, the real "Roofman," requested that the filmmakers cast someone "uglier" than Channing Tatum to play him. However, after speaking with Tatum, he changed his mind, feeling they had a lot in common.
Keep an eye out for a "Hang in there" poster in the back office during the film, and the name Kenneth Griffin when the main character obtains a fake passport. These may be subtle easter eggs referencing the fate of Toys "R" Us and other real-world events.
