The film's protagonist, Sony Holiday, a mythical figure of the Wild West, is known not only for his fast revolver, but also for his possession of an unusual bird. This bird, an object of worship and envy, fuels a spiral of crime and gruesomeness in the town.

On his way home, Mikołaj Twardowski is attacked by bandits. He calls on the devil for help, who rescues him from danger. The devil's intentions are not selfless. Twardowski signs a pact with Hell, unaware of what he is agreeing to. Eighteen years pass, and the devil appears at Mikołaj's house with the intention of taking his son away. The cautious Twardowski, just before his death, sends his son to a hermit, who advises him on how to steal the contract his father signed.

The story of an Angel named Giordano, who, for his rascally conduct in Heaven (too frequent visits to Purgatory and his fascination with rock-and-roll), is sent to earth to do at least one good deed there every day. Giordano is supposed to land in "Holland", but by mistake he ends up in "Poland" (or more precisely: Krakow). His fresh outlook, sympathy for people and original thinking about the world help him, at the very beginning of his stay on Earth, to save a crumbling marriage.

Giordano, an angel assigned to an orphan in Krakow, is two years into the job when his celestial overseers, citing budget cuts, initiate "Phase Two" without telling him. Some changes are good - they send him a nanny, the enterprising Irena; some are bad - his phone number to Heaven no longer works nor do his special powers; and some dismay him - he grows a penis. His closest friend tells him to get a woman, and Irena advises him on hygiene. He visits a therapist, Roma, and falls in love with her. She tells him its transference. Meanwhile, Giordano's celestial friends conspire to rid Roma of her boyfriend, clearing the way for Giordano to be his naive and engaging self.

A town near Warsaw. A group of teenagers rules one of the courtyards: Ali, Pawik, and Małgośka, the object of both boys' fascination. A few years later, these same young people form a typical youth gang. Ali and Pawik gather around them a group of peers who have been unable to find their place in society and want to live an easy life. Robberies and thefts are their idea of a comfortable existence.
