The Wedding (2000)
The beautiful Tanya returns to her small mining town, after supposedly working as a model in Moscow. She decides to marry her shy school sweetheart Mishka, who now works in the mine. The miners finally receive some pay, but Mishka still ends up with no money to buy his bride a gift, so he seeks the help of his perpetually drunk buddy Garkusha. Mishka's poor working-class family all help to put on a fine wedding with copious amounts of vodka, even though they are suspicious of Tanya's occupation in Moscow, and of her connection with her Mafia ex-boyfriend Borodin.

Kroņa numurs (1986)
Ten-year-old Čurkstiņš is both an ordinary and unusual modern boy who, in his wanderings around the outskirts of his town, is never far from his two passions: his camera and his white cat, Watson. Čurkstiņš has a rich library of detective novels at home. The books he has read clearly influence his perception of the world around him, but the boy also possesses enormous patience and a sense of honesty. All of this suggests that he has the potential to be a talented investigator. During the course of the film, the boy, without realizing it, has done his first investigative work, exposing the cunning money-grabbing and hiding mechanisms of the fisherman Mellup. Čurkstiņš has evidence that the police officers lack. Gathering this evidence, of course, involves difficulties, risks, and clever solutions, which also form the plot of the film, but it all began with the lies of adults, against which the little boy protests internally and begins his great work.

The Zitar Family (1990)
The epic film is based on the motifs of Vilis Lācis' novel "The Zītari Family". The tragedy of the Zītari family is a model of Latvian national history. With the beginning of World War I, the patriarchal way of life of Captain Andrejs and his wife Alvīne, their children Kārlis, Ings, Ernests, Elza and Janka changes, with years spent at work and in rare, modest celebrations. Kārlis voluntarily goes to the front, Ingus disappears without a trace on long sea voyages. Not wanting to live in the territory occupied by the German army, the Zītari evacuate to the distant Altai region. The unusually difficult living conditions and the drastically changing political situation of the post-revolutionary period also affect each member of the Zītari family. When the opportunity arises to return to Latvia, Andrejs and Alvīne are no longer among the living. The old sailor's nest has collapsed and the young Zītari are no longer able to preserve their father's house - all the property is stolen.

Naughty Emil (1985)
One of the iconic Latvian movies. Based on Astrid Lindgren's book 'Emil of Lönneberga'. A story of a little boy, Emil, who, according to others is incredibly naughty, but actually Emil is a lot more kind hearted than all the rest. And everything he does is to help someone. But somehow it all the time turns out like a prank. His family won't agree with any pranks on themselves, so there goes Emil in his father's tool shed, where he's locked up for every prank. Includes the phrase - 'the main idea is to keep your feet warm', which has been adapted in Latvian culture, so it's already a saying.
