Laura Baxter is a young woman, literally a "sleeping beauty," who suffers from a medical condition called "parasomnia." Zen-Aku, the strange wolf creature, is still confused about his identity. Seeking revenge against the Rangers, he is puzzled by his apparently human tendencies when he rescues a wolf pup. Animus, the lord of the Wild Zords, appears to help Zen-Aku remember who he is, but Nayzor tricks him and he completely forgets who he is again. During a lunar eclipse, however, Zen-Aku suddenly transforms into his real human form -- that of Merrick, a powerful warrior. Merrick explains to the Rangers that 3,000 years ago, he put on the wolf mask to defeat Master Org, but was then cursed to become Zen-Aku. Princess Shayla orders the Predazord destroyed, believing this will remove the curse. The Rangers vanquish the Predazord, and Merrick becomes himself again! Trying to set things straight, Merrick sets off to face Master Org, but he meets up with Nayzor and the Quadra Org as well. Can he defeat them? If so, will this once very old friend become the Rangers' new friend and stay with them?

While fighting Cole, Master Org realizes that there something about him that connects his past that remains to be the last puzzle of a "Revenge" mission years ago, so eventually he had a General Org to awake a very dangerous and powerful Duke Org to help take down the Rangers, Zen Aku. Upon returning after 3000 years, Zen Aku begins to showed some unique traits of him compared to other Orgs, such as having his own Zords and Megazord, while doing so steals some of the Rangers' Zords.

Five Ancient Zords are discovered by each of the Rangers. Alyssa discovered the Elephant Zord through a Field-trip for her college, Max discovered the Giraffe Zord through a nightmare of the Rangers being destroyed, Taylor discovered the White Bear and Black Bear Zord through two twins she discovered breaking into a Air Force, and Cole discovered the Gorilla Zord while on his search for the Soul Bird to restore his Lion Zord. But while this going on, Master Org attempts to steal these Zords before the Rangers can.
