Emmi Kurowski, a cleaning lady, is lonely in her old age. Her husband died years ago, and her grown children offer little companionship. Rico Moreno is trying to break the world record for continuous television in order to finance an illegal private broadcasting project on the high seas. His friend Banana helps him to endure 240 hours non-stop in front of the screen. He provides him with sandwiches, coffee, whisky, cigarettes, ice packs and movies that promise a little variety. But at the end of his record attempt, Rico only reacts to the 625 lines on the TV screen. His perception of the world around him has been extinguished, he is unresponsive and no longer communicates anything. The record succeeds, but where is Rico? He has flown away into another world, from where Banana and his girlfriend Bigi finally try to bring him back to life via the screen.

Made during the last months of actor Kurt Raab, who died of AIDS in 1988. Raab, who had worked in both theatre and film, most notably with Fassbinder, was in the process of making a series of video sketches for a new production when he learned that he had AIDS. Despite his deteriorating health, and with the caring support of his friend Hans Hirshmuller, he carried on working. This tape is his last testimony. Awarded with the Adolf Grimme Award and Cinéma du Réel Award
