Božena Němcová společně s vydavatelem píší román „Babička“. Důvod je více než zřejmý – Němcová se nachází ve finanční tísni a vydavatel cítí příležitost, jak na národním obrození vydělat. Ve filmu se Němcová vrací do svého dětství (druhá linie) a odhaluje divákovi skutečnou pravdu. Na Staré Bělidlo přijíždí po 20. letech babička. Není to ale Marie Novotná, nýbrž její soused Mareš. Díky své povaze si postupně získává přízeň rodiny Proškovic i samotné kněžny Zaháňské. Vydavateli se však tento příběh podaný B.Němcovou nelíbí a provádí nekompromisní korekci celého díla. Nakonec přepíše celou knihu sám. Proto se originální rukopis do dnešních dnů nedochoval. Situace ještě graduje příjezdem opravdové babičky a dochází k nečekanému odhalení. Celá rodina řeší velké dilema...

Josef and Miluška have been married for what seems like forever. Miluška teaches areobic and cares for her husband and teenage daughter tirelessly. Josef loves his wife, but has a weakness for younger more beautiful women. Their marriage, along with Josef's bankrupt publishing company, is slowly crumbling until aunt Marta - an experienced marital counsellor - comes to the rescue.
