Zahrajko is going to have a birthday and Spievanka wants to prepare a celebration for him. She calls other kids for help. Along with beavers carpenters, cancer tailor and baker teddy Lacko prepare gifts for him. Children get to know many different professions in Spievankovo, presented by songs and learn that each profession is equally important. A family saga taking place mostly in a small Slovak village over a period of thirty years (1887–1917). The first part captures the life of Martin Pichandu in the development of his craft, masonry; in the second part, his son is center stage living in a period of socio-political crisis, which ultimately results in the first World War. After originally airing on Czechoslovakian television in 1983 as a four-part 226-minute mini-series, this production received a 163-minute theatrical release in 1984.

Uncle Von Pressburg's mysterious will changes the whole course of the household, where the servant Alfred takes care of the children Christine and Oliver. The children are threatened with boarding school, but in his will, the uncle decides that the children will be cared for by guardians and, in order to give them something to live on, he offers them the opportunity to set up the world's first ghost rental company. The children make friends with the ghosts, unlike their overbearing siblings who can't get along with anyone on good terms. To make matters worse, two world-famous thieves break into the basement.
