Zhang Zhi Dong (2022)

Along with Zeng Guofan, Li Hongzhang and Zuo Zongtang, Zhang Zhidong was one of the four most famous officials of the late Qing dynasty. In addition to serving as governor of Shanxi Province, viceroy of Huguang, Liangguang, and Liangjiang, and a member of the Grand Council, he advocated controlled reform and modernization of Chinese troops. In 1905, he played a big part in abolishing the Imperial examination system. During the Cultural Revolution, the Red Guards destroyed his tomb. He was reburied in 2007 after his remains were rediscovered.
