Allan Thorsen is tired of his wife, but he finds it difficult to tell her that he wants a divorce. So he arranges a skiing holiday where she will fall in love with another man, so that he can get rid of her without having to do anything himself. She does find a man who is interested, but then Allan becomes jealous and soon tries to win his wife back. However, the situation is complicated by the fact that Allan's mistress suddenly shows up at the holiday hotel.

The late 1930s. A young enemployed, unskilled worker walks through the streets of Copenhagen, sustaining himself partly on the dole and free soup-kitchen meals and partly on day-dreams. He spends time at a cemetry studying headstone inscriptions. The princess of Illyria, who has rejected all the fine suitors who have proposed to her, begins to take an interest in a gypsy who wanders around near the castle and who is in fact none other than the prince of Denmark with his friend, Kasper Røghat. The prince entices her with his magical toys, a rattle and a copper kettle, the price being a kiss and a night in the princess's chamber. Casper the Dwarf makes sure that the king is informed of the 'affair', and the princess is thrown out by her father.

This is a film about the stuff dreams are made of, yet, there is nothing elevated in this concept, on the contrary. The characters around the bar Strudsen (the ostrich) are doing what ostriches do, hiding themselves from the threats of life and keeping their dreams to themselves. Scriptwriter Benny Andersen being a poet is rendering a loving portrait of a number of persons, who fail to try to make their dreams come true, possibly not being sufficiently dissatisfied with their life after all. The manager would like a bar of his own but dare not admit to it, the butcher would like to be an opera singer, the window cleaner (sorry, window polisher) is secretly in love with the bar lady, but dare not show it and the pianist willingly listens to all the different dreams being presented to him. This film was the best accomplished movie from Henning Carlsen since his debut with 'Sult'.

Heavily influenced by the French stage sensation La Cage Aux Folles (which was filmed the very same year) a drag-queen comedy about a group of homosexuals sharing an apartment with a naive but straight country boy did not live up to expectations. The lead characters lead boring lives during the day and, as depicted here, downright pathetic existences at night, all decked out in peacock plumes and high heels and with nowhere to go.

Based on Leif Panduro's 1958 satire classic. David, a senior high-school student, aims a swift kick at his principal's behind and is committed to a psychiatric ward from the perspective of which he takes a close look at his allegedly sane family. They, of course, are the real loonies. The psychiatrists are worse. Only lovely class-mate Lis is down-to-earth and trustworthy.

Poul Henriksen is a bank teller, a man in his prime with a hobby of studying Napoleon. He is happily married to the lovely Mrs. Gerda, a devoted mother to their three children. She has long since learned that men always remain big boys, and she is therefore also a mother to her husband. Their son William is "something" in an office, which bores him terribly. Instead, he has thrown himself into jazz with fanatical zeal and dreams of becoming the greatest jazz musician of all time. William also has a girlfriend, Nina, who is enthusiastic about jazz and visits him at all hours of the day and night, which greatly concerns his parents. A conflict forces Poul to kick his son out of the house. This makes the parents unhappy, and on top of that, they have come to believe that William should have a child with Nina.

The young bank assistant Harald Løve is not particularly suited to sharing his name with the king of beasts. At least, courage and decisiveness have not been his strongest qualities thus far; quite the contrary. Løve is a timid man who is afraid of almost everything and everyone, not least his boss, the arrogant and somewhat eccentric provincial director, bank director Nikolajsen.
