King, Annie Lennox, Lou Reed, John Fogerty, Mick Jagger, Fergie and others. A 4-hour special of the concerts aired on HBO to high ratings, and was seen by tens of millions. In November of 1970 James Taylor and Carole King first performed together at the Troubadour on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, California. Taylor had just released his debut album for the Beatles' newly formed Apple Records and King was finding her way as a first time solo performer even though by then she was a famous songwriter with a string of hits for other artists. When they returned to the club for a two-week co-headlining run in 1971 their lives were somewhat different. That summer Taylor's "Fire and Rain" was topping the charts and King's landmark Tapestry was on its way to making her a music superstar. Thirty-six years later, in November 2007, James Taylor, Carole King and members of their renowned original band "The Section" (featuring guitarist Danny Kortchmar, bassist Leland Sklar and drummer Russell Kunkel) returned to the Troubadour for a three-night, six-show run to celebrate the venue's 50th anniversary.

'The Hissing of Summer Lawns' is the seventh studio album by the Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, released in November 1975 on Asylum Records. It continues the jazz-influenced sound of Mitchell's previous album, 'Court and Spark', with more unconventional and experimental material. It features synthesizers such as the Moog and ARP, sampling, backing from the jazz-rock groups the L.A. Express and the Jazz Crusaders, and contributions from James Taylor, David Crosby, and Graham Nash.

This live set from 1979 opens, appropriately, with the vintage “Blossom” from 1970’s Sweet Baby James, and is of particular interest to Taylor aficionados for its inclusion of several tracks from Flag. These are “Millworker,” “Brother Trucker,” his hit cover of Goffin and King’s “Up on the Roof,” and “I Will Not Lie for You,” which are interspersed among staples from an already rich catalog.
