La vie avec mon père (2005)
Quebec writer François Agira, despite only writing one novel, achieved almost legendary status. Living off his royalties, he indulged in a hedonistic lifestyle. However, as he approached his sixties, the novelist began to face challenges with impotence and financial difficulties. Returning to his two sons, Paul and Patrick, Agira found himself in a stark contrast. Paul, a laid-back individual, followed in his father’s footsteps and was working on his first novel. In contrast, Patrick, a rigid senior executive at a pharmaceutical company, embodied the opposite. Agira moved into the dilapidated family home with Paul and his girlfriend, Sylvie, a waitress. Despite continuing to party, his life took a dramatic turn when he discovered he had cancer.

The Countess of Baton Rouge (1997)
In a style evocative of Fellini at his most surreal, this bizarre French Canadian fantasy follows the romance between a young filmmaker and a bearded lady from a local circus during the 1960s. The story begins in a contemporary theater where a projectionist describes, to movie director Rex Prince, the ghostly spirit that seems to be haunting his film. The story then races backward to the 1960s when a half-mad, idealistic Rex was busily making his first film, a Marxist tract depicting poverty in Montreal. Edouard Dore, a well-connected editor works with him and it is he who takes Rex to a carnival late one night to meet the performers in a freakshow. The first person Rex meets is Le Grand Zenon, a hulking one-eyed fellow with the amazing ability to use his eye to project movie images on a screen with neither a projector nor film.

Another House (2013)
Mathieu Roy's L’Autre maison is an intimate and powerful family drama featuring three generations of great Quebec Actors. Marcel Sabourin plays Henri Bernard, an 86 year-old man with a failing grip on reality. His sons, a jet setting middle aged photo-journalist (Roy Dupuis) and a younger pilot-in-training (Emile Proulx-Cloutier) disagree on a course of action, leaving the father and the younger son inhabiting a rustic cottage in the woods. As the older man's health deteriorates, options become more limited; when an IED accident in Afghanistan kills the photo-journalist's translator, the family must come together like never before. Shot in Quebec, Iceland, Africa and Asia, Another House blends elements of memory, perception and lyricism into a remarkable cinematic mix that moves the story well beyond direct domestic issues into a visual realm that balances nature and humanity.

The Orange Grove
Aziz, a young Arab actor in New York City, wrestles with the haunting echoes of his past while serving as an understudy in a production of the Greek tragedy Hecuba. Days before the premiere, he is thrust into the spotlight, and rehearsals become a fragile dance between memory and reality. Shadows of his childhood in a war-torn homeland resurface—memories of a lost twin brother, Ahmad, and an orange grove torn apart by conflict. As Aziz delves deeper into his role, his own anguish bleeds into the performance. The play’s director sees a rare, unguarded truth in Aziz’s portrayal, unaware of the profound personal wounds that lie beneath it. On opening night, Aziz’s grief and guilt transform his performance into a raw, cathartic journey. Through the act of storytelling, he confronts the fractured pieces of his identity, merging the past with the present and finding a bittersweet peace in honoring his brother’s memory.
