Israel, 1956: Jewish teacher Rachel Stein rather unexpectedly meets an old friend at the kibbutz. It brings back memories of her experiences in the Netherlands during the war, memories of betrayal. In September 1944, Rachel's hiding place is bombed by Allied troops; she makes contact with a resistance member and joins a group of Jews to be smuggled across the Biesbosch to the freed South Netherlands. Only Rachel escapes a massacre by patrol Germans, and is rescued by a resistance group under the leadership of Gerben Kuipers, whose son is captured trying to smuggle weapons. Kuipers asks Rachel to seduce SS-hauptsturmführer Ludwig Müntze, a mission that she will soon learn that the boat attack wasn't a coincidence.

In the occupied Netherlands near the end of WWII, a young teenager, Jeroen Boman (Maarten Smit) is sent to the Dutch countryside to avoid the war in Amsterdam. While living with his adopted family, Jeroen meets and becomes friends with a Canadian soldier named Walt Cook, who is stationed at the same town he is staying at. Joroen and Walt spend a lot of time playing around and eventually a romantic relationship develops between them. The boy’s sexual curiosity leads him to have a sexual experience with Walt, an encounter that is shown with some vague detail but without actually showing any nudity, even though sexual intimacy between the two of them is implied. Overall, the movie handles this difficult subject with an elegant style and feeling, without having the adult-child relationship overwhelm the viewer and thus allowing the movie to be seen as just a wartime relationship between two people that marks an important time in a young boy’s life.

On 12 May 1978, Kate made her debut on Dutch television in a program that has gotten to be known as “De Efteling Special”. The amusement park De Efteling served as a backdrop for six songs of The Kick Inside: Moving, Wuthering Heights, Them Heavy People, Strange Phenomena, The Man With The Child In His Eyes, and The Kick Inside. On 10 May 1978, the Efteling was ready to open the Haunted Castle, the most expensive attraction it had ever constructed (designed by Ton van der Ven), and they wanted to promote it. In April a documentary featuring the Haunted Castle was made by filmmaker Rien van Wijk, who was eager to shoot in the latest attraction before it officially opened. Kate, who just had a big hit with Wuthering Heights, was approached for a television special that would promote both Efteling and her songs. This is the original broadcast of May 12, 1978. The original 16m film is lost; this is a copy of the uMatic version that is the only version left.

Rock's own megalomania gained a hitherto unimaginable amplitude, represented by bands like Queen, Genesis, Supertramp, Doobie Brothers and more recent ones, already within the 80s, like The Police. It was when rock had to be "super" to overcome fashions like punk or discothèque, then on the rise. A documentary on Heinz Hermann Polzer, better known under his pseudonym Drs. P. Polzer was a Swiss singer-songwriter, poet, and prose writer in the Dutch language. His oeuvre consists mainly of macabre novelty songs, with dry humour, surprising twists and an exceptionally inventive and virtuoso use of the Dutch language. Polzer sang his lyrics with a distinctive shaky voice, while accompanying himself on the piano.
