Submarino (2010)
As children, Nick and his little brother take care of their baby brother while their mother drinks herself senseless. But the baby dies, and both brothers blame themselves. Many years later, Nick is out of prison after serving time for an assault. He drinks, lives in a shelter and tries to help an old friend. When their mother dies, Nick meets his brother at the funeral. The brother, who remains nameless, is a single father to a young boy, but also supports a drug habit that is spiraling out of control. When an opportunity presents itself, he becomes a drug dealer to secure his son's future. Eventually, the two brothers meet again.

Totstellen (1975)
The story of a young man from Burgenland named Franz who works for an expanding construction company. The boss urgently needs workers and tries to tie Franz to his company by offering him a promotion to foreman. Franz is undecided. After some hesitation, however, he accepts an offer from a large construction company. Franz wants to start a family with his pregnant girlfriend Erna and build a house. She faints in an accident and Franz goes to find a doctor. The doctor is with the builder, who stands in the way of the desperate young man. Franz pushes the builder aside and injures his arm in the process. Franz is then reported to the police and brought to court. He gets caught up in the wheels of justice and ends up in prison. Sweet Revenge (1977)
Masao is falsely accused and jailed for the murder of a loanshark to whom he owed a lot of money. His sister Kiriko makes the long trip to Tokyo, specifically to accost Otsuka, Japan's top criminal defence lawyer, and plead with him to take her brother's case. They live in Kitakyushu which, though a city, she contends that the local lawyers are not up to the job. Otsuka contemptuously brushes her off. A year passes. Masao has suicided in jail, his appeal having failed due to the lack of interest and competence of the local defence lawyer. Kiriko returns to Tokyo, planning revenge on Otsuka for refusing the case and causing her brother's death.
