Jean-Étienne Fougerole is an intellectual bohemian who released his new novel "In Open Arms" and calling the wealthiest people to welcome home the families in need. While he promotes his book during a televised debate, his opponent criticized him for not applying what he himself advocates. While stuck, Jean-Étienne Fougerole accepts the challenge, for fear of being discredited. The same evening, a family of Roma rings the door of his Marnes-la-Coquette villa and the writer feels obliged to house them.

A Stranger (30s) hikes out of town and into the forest. He sets up camp for the night. He hears a deep howling, peeks his head out the tent and gets attacked -- leaving him unconscious. An anonymous Man (25) drags his body to a house, which is nestled in a place that time has somehow forgotten. The injured Stranger awakens in a bed as a Woman (35) nurses him back to health. This Man and Woman play a game with this Stranger, a game that pushes him to the brink of madness.

A woman, who has just separated from her husband, comes to stay at the villa of the friend. The friend is away (and throughout the whole movie only appears as a voice on the phone), but the woman's goofy son (who looks like he just escaped from the Monkees) is staying there too. The son falls for her, not surprisingly since she always dresses in skimpy miniskirts or bikinis, and rarely closes the door when she is changing clothes or showering.
