Deep in the jungle of Central Vietnam, lies a magnificent underground kingdom. Hang Son Doong which translates as “mountain river cave”, is the largest cave passage in the world and a place of spectacular beauty. With more people having climbed Everest than visited Son Doong, its pristine charm has remained undisturbed for millions of years. In 2014, Son Doong’s future was thrown into doubt when plans were announced to build a cable car into the cave. With many arguing that this would destroy its delicate eco-system and the local community divided over the benefits this development would bring, the film follows those caught up in the unfolding events. Beautifully shot and scored, “A Crack In The Mountain” is a powerful exposé about how both good and bad intentions can ultimately lead to one of the world’s greatest natural wonders being trampled for money. As well as inspire those who care about our natural heritage to fight to protect it.

A city with a history of heritage, myth and superstition. A passionate architect with strong but delusional ideas about love and life. A Czech gypsy girl searching for her identity and true love. Add to the drama of a mean friend you can’t do without and cannot trust either. The conflict of these complex characters is further heightened with illusions of someone who is there but at the same time not there- what you see is not true? or is the truth, what you not see? All of the above are thrown together in a very unique and unusual situation where you do not know what to believe and what to disbelieve.

Composition for twenty photographs, sound effects and narrating voice. Twenty pictures taken between spring and summer 1934. A moving love story lost in the past. Mountains as a place of the soul, between Trentino and Südtirol. The photographs come from the director’s family archive, kept by his father Carlo, a retired professor. The female protagonist of the story is the director’s grandmother, Alessandra Buffatto, who was 21 at the time of the pictures. The short film is dedicated to her memory.
