The royal squire George tastes a bite of a magical snake and understands the language of animals. He therefore sets off on a journey accompanied by Stephen, with whom he grew up since childhood, and a small dog named Lucky, whose life George saved. George is faced with a whole series of adventures and surprises along the way. He has no idea that Stephen is jealous and is not as sincere a friend as he seemed. After a while, he lands nose-down and when he gets up, his nose remains stuck in the ground. He gives up, and we see that "wise" people aren't faring much better. He returns to his master, who gives him a replacement nose and sets off on an easier path.
