Goya in Bordeaux (1999)
Francisco Goya (1746-1828), deaf and ill, lives the last years of his life in voluntary exile in Bordeaux, a Liberal protesting the oppressive rule of Ferdinand VII. He continues to paint at night, and in flashbacks stirred by conversations with his daughter, by awful headaches, and by the befuddlement of age, he relives key times in his life.

Melody (1953)
An owl teaches his class full of birds about melody. It's all around in nature. Only birds and man can sing; man "sings" even when he speaks. We see a quick survey of the stages of life, as captured by songs: the alphabet song for primary school, Here Comes the Bride, The Old Gray Mare, etc. Some inspirations for song are outlined in song: love, sailing, trains, the West, motherhood, etc., but "we never sing about brains." Finally, an example of how a simple melody can be expanded into a symphony: an elaborate version of the simple tune that opened the lesson

Geiersberg Castle in Spessart is a popular hotel for married couples and lovers. The buxom landlady isn't averse to anything and even the quirky valet Beppo takes what he can get. A special attraction for visitors is the nearby spa station of the shepherd Astloch, whose cures have a very invigorating effect on certain parts of the body. In the Spessart, people not only sing and rob, but also indulge in physical pleasures.
