Biography of Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of modern Pakistan is told through flashbacks as his soul tries to find eternal rest. The flashbacks start in 1947 as Jinnah pleads for a separate nation for the Muslim minority, infuriating Lord Mountbatten. Mountbatten then tries to enlist Gandhi & Nehru to persuade Jinnah to stop his efforts. Gandhi sides with Jinnah, which upsets Nehru. However, Jinnah turns down the offer to become prime minister and the film takes another slide back to 1916, which reveals all of the political implications that have occurred.

After his wife passes away, wealthy Advocate Mahendrapratap Singh re-marries a widow named Geeta, who has a young son named Devilal alias Devi. Mahendrapratap dislikes Devi to such an extent that one day he asks Geeta to make a choice between her son and him. Devi decides to leave so that his mother can have a secure life, but threatens Mahendra that he will be back to avenge this humiliation. Shortly thereafter, Judge Saxena is killed, a pregnant Geeta is arrested, charged with killing him, with Saxena's wife, Roopa, and Mahendrapratap testifying against her, she is sentenced to 14 years in prison. In prison she gives birth to a son, calls him Raja alias Raju and right from his infancy trains his young mind to hate Mahendrapratap, so that when he grows up he will avenge her humiliation. The question remains, will Raju be able to carry out this vengeance against his biological father or does fate have other plans for him?

Widowed Judge Kedarnath Sinha lives a comfortable lifestyle with two sons, CBI Inspector Vijay, and College-going Sonu. Vijay is aware of the terrible tragedy that marked his 5th birthday celebration, when the party was interrupted by a vengeful escaped convict Billa, who killed DCP Ravi Khanna, cut-off Kedarnath's right hand, & abducted, raped and brutally assaulted Sharda Khanna. The action begins in a tavern where a group of former students are reminiscing about their time at the university. One of the students, Jose Duarte then breaks into song, performing an impromptu fado in the local Coimbra style. The tavern owner's niece, the aptly named Maria Lisboa promptly retaliates with a fado of the Lisbon variety. The melodramatic plot then centers on the frustrated romance between these two characters, and the soundtrack is essentially a musical duel between these two different styles of Portugal's national song.

Suraj is the adopted son of a wealthy hotel owner who is haunted by memories of his birth mother's rejection. He befriends Raja not knowing that he is in fact his younger brother and even gives up his love Sapna to Raja. Through Raja he is reunited with his birth mother and it is revealed that she was raped by a criminal who fathered Suraj. After many fights, flying bodies, car chases, and broken glass, Suraj eventually exacts revenge on his birth father and dies happily in his mother's arms.
