Ruigoord, a village near Amsterdam, was squatted by hippies in the 1970s. Fifty years later, it is the oldest cultural sanctuary in the Netherlands; a refuge for artists, dreamers and freethinkers, like an oasis of wonder wedged between the port and industry. When they want to celebrate their 50th anniversary, the Amsterdam energy transition hangs over the village like a black shadow; the nearby oil tanks are going to be used for storage of green hydrogen, which puts Ruigoord in the danger zone.
