This has to be one of the best, most unique, backpacking trips in the US. While hiking through gorgeous canyons and red rock I found dozens of abandoned ancient American cities or pueblos. I found ancient pottery, artifacts, granaries and homes. And camped in a desert winter snow storm.

I rode the hurricane train on the Alaska Railroad and was dropped off in the middle of Alaska's interior far from the nearest road or any civilization. I planned on skiing 11 miles off trail over a mountain pass to get back to the road system, but things didn't go as planned.

I took my 5 year old son hammock camping in a hot tent in the mountains of Alaska using my snowdog. Around sunset we heard large animals "Giggling" outside our tent and I we went to sleep with the sounds of wolves howling in the woods around us. But we had a good time and ate some amazing food.

S9E10 - Hot Tent Camping in CRAZY Blizzard (Rescuing Trapped Drivers & Almost Getting Trapped My Self)

I found the most beautiful winter camping spot ever to set up my hot tent teepee. But a massive snow storm dumped a large amount of snow and crazy winds about blew me off the mountain. Getting home turned out to be a bigger challenge than I anticipated and I ended up helping some stuck drivers along the way. Defiantly one of the more intense endings to a video I have ever done.

S9E14 - Dugout Shelter Under 10ft (3m) of Snow - Solo Camping in Survival Shelter During Snow Storm

It snowed 30 inches (76 cm) in less than 12 hrs but I was comfy and warm in my dugout shelter (snow cave) under 10 feet (3 meters) of snow. I built a mass snow cave the size of a small cabin carved from the snow in the Alaskan Mountains. But while the solo camping was comfortable, the return home was very not, my poor car was buried and it took me 3 hrs to dig myself to freedom and only after a lot of help from strangers.

Me, my son Tommy and my Nephew Ransom are flying into the Arctic Circle to the Inupiaq village of Kotzebue Alaska. We spent 4 days hunting and fishing and getting to experience traditional native Alaskan Inuit culture. We also got to experience what I think is the best ice fishing on earth - the spring sheefish run on the frozen Chukchi sea.
