Maria is a simple woman who never had the opportunity to study, having started working early to help her family. She was still a young teenager when she left her mother's house with her brother Miguel. Everything in Maria's life revolves around Miguel, who is like her own son to her. Despite all the hardships she endures, which are compounded by her lack of education and characteristic innocence, Maria maintains a strong sense of honor and dignity and has never chosen the easy path in her struggle for survival.
