Chicagoan Frank Gallagher is the proud single dad of six smart, industrious, independent kids, who without him would be... perhaps better off. When Frank's not at the bar spending what little money they have, he's passed out on the floor. But the kids have found ways to grow up in spite of him. They may not be like any family you know, but they make no apologies for being exactly who they are.

Real Chicago Home: The exterior shots of the Gallagher house are filmed on location in Chicago, but the interiors are shot on a Los Angeles set. An elderly gentleman lives in the real house, and fans can leave donations for him on the porch.
From Pilot to Prank: Allison Janney was originally cast as Sheila Jackson and filmed the pilot, but she dropped out due to other commitments. Later, Emmy Rossum pranked Justin Chatwin by convincing the writers to create a fake scene where his character comes out as gay to his father.
Emmy's Fight for Equality: Emmy Rossum, who played Fiona, demanded equal pay to William H. Macy after season 7. This led to a negotiation that threatened the show's production. She eventually got the pay equity she deserved.
Double Life for Liam: The youngest Gallagher, Liam, was portrayed by twins, Brendan and Brandon Sims, for most of the series. Their mother ran an Instagram page for them, revealing they were WWE fans and "living Shamelessly". As the character aged, Christian Isaiah took over the role.
Pool Sharing: The pool where Fiona and Steve have a steamy scene in season 1 is the same pool featured in the 1999 movie Cruel Intentions. It has also appeared in Mad Men and The West Wing.
