Nobody Wants This (2024)

An agnostic sex podcaster and a newly single rabbi fall in love, but can their relationship survive their wildly different lives and meddling families?

Erin Foster, the show's creator, initially wrote the role of Joanne for herself, but Netflix executives were set on Kristen Bell for the part. Foster admitted she also wanted to focus on becoming a mom, making Bell's casting a good fit.
The series is loosely based on Erin Foster's real-life experiences dating and converting to Judaism for her husband, Simon Tikhman. She even included her real-life mother-in-law in a cameo during the opening temple scene.
Several locations in Los Angeles were used for filming, aiming for authenticity rather than touristy spots. The production team consulted rabbis to ensure accuracy when filming temple scenes.
There are Easter eggs nodding to Adam Brody and Kristen Bell's previous roles. Ryan Hansen, Bell's Veronica Mars co-star, makes a cameo, and his character is even wearing a shirt referencing his Party Down character, Kyle. Additionally, Noah's boss shares a last name with Brody's The O.C. character, Seth Cohen.
Adam Brody's real-life wife, Leighton Meester, guest stars in season 2 as Joanne's middle school nemesis. In a meta moment, Joanne even comments on how pretty Abby (Meester) is, to which Noah (Brody) replies, "She's not my type".
