In the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, an FBI agent heads a task force assembled to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man.

Inspiration from Real Life: Mark Ruffalo's character, Tom Brandis, a former priest turned FBI agent, is loosely based on creator Brad Ingelsby's uncle, who left the priesthood. Ingelsby drew upon the themes of faith, loss, and purpose from his uncle's life to shape the protagonist's internal struggles.
Delco Roots: The show is set and filmed in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, reflecting creator Brad Ingelsby's personal connection to the area. Ingelsby, who grew up in Delaware County, aimed to capture the authenticity and the sense of duty and family he observed while growing up.
From Ozark to Philly: Tom Pelphrey, who plays Robbie Prendergrast, is known for his Emmy-nominated role in Ozark. For Task, Pelphrey moved his family to Pennsylvania and worked on perfecting the difficult Delaware County accent.
Local Flavor: The series incorporates regional favorites like Rita's Italian Ice and roast pork sandwiches, adding to its authentic feel. Several real-life locations were used for filming, including Ralph's Italian Restaurant and the Delaware County Courthouse.
Heat Inspiration: Creator Brad Ingelsby cited Michael Mann's 1995 film Heat as an inspiration for the plot's structure. Ingelsby wanted the audience to empathize with both the FBI agent and the criminal, creating tension as they are put on a collision course.
