The story takes place in the 1930s. NIP CHUN (MIU KIU WAI), one of the most influential gang leaders in Shanghai for the past twenty years, decides to step down after the sudden death of his wife. K-100 was an entertainment information programme which was shown on Hong Kong's Television Broadcasts Limited. The program provided information about upcoming and latest shows airing on TVB. It also featured interviews with celebrities who work for the station, and behind-the-scenes peeks at the station's studio complex. In addition, K-100 also announced the station's top-five shows over the previous week in terms of viewership during the "Viewership Ratings" segment. The name "K-100" originated from the station's previous post office box number, with the "K-" prefix indicating that the box was located in Kowloon. The station's PO box was re-numbered to "70100" following the postal service's consolidation of its PO boxes, but the programme's name stuck. The program debuted on January 22, 1977, and ran almost every week until September 17, 2005, when it was replaced by another show called "E-Buzz". 1,449 episodes of K-100 had been taped since its inception.

The series chronicles the comical events and life of the Kam household, a rich family during a prosperous time in the Ming Dynasty of China. The series was inspired by the 2000 TVB comedy drama Colourful Life. Originally planned to be an 150-episode sitcom, an extra 200 episodes were added due to the sitcom's rating success. After the episode finale, a spin-off sequel, Virtues of Harmony II was released in 2003, as well as a spin-off musical, which starred the same cast.

It is also aired on certain Cathay Pacific flights. TVB released the VCD, DVD, and books. Stephen Chan Chi Wan, General Manager of TVB, is the host of this show and he interviews notable performing celebrities, politicians, business people in Hong Kong. There are also stage and ball shows of the programme but they are not released.
