Beyond the Realm of Conscience is a 2009 Hong Kong television series. Produced by Mui Siu-ching, the serial is one of the two grand TVB productions to celebrate along with the channel's 42nd anniversary, the other being Born Rich. The drama aired five days a week on the TVB network with 45-minute episodes starting October 19, 2009. Set in the latter years of the Tang Dynasty, Beyond the Realm of Conscience tells the story of palace maid Lau Sam-ho and her relations in the Imperial Palace, beginning with her experiences in the Imperial Household Bureau. The series title roughly means "Plots in the Palace" and is a play on the phrase, a homonym which roughly means "Plots that target and attack the heart".

The two well known laywers YU YING WAI and LEE MING YEUNG are against each other in court. Because YING WAI wanted to win a case, it almost cost him his life and after that incident, he had a new view on life. Experienced lawyer LO SAM BO viewed the changed WAI differently, and recruited him to join his law firm as a probate lawyer. KAN had been in a relationship with the wealthy SUNG KA YIU for many years, but YIU loves merit too much and had no interest in ambitions, which gave YEUNG an opportunity win KAN's heart. When the hearing for a case involving a will began, the judge happened to be WAI's ex-wife and YEUNG's ex-girlfriend LUK SZE YING, the two heroes meet again, but together they discovered there was another side to the case. The person involved just happened to be WAI's apprentice CHING KA MING, whom had a huge connection to the case. The actions of the lawyer lifted a crisis of life and death.

Japanese cuisine chef Chung Lai-Wo (Michael Tao) has long been in love with his childhood friend Ko Yau-Mei (Louisa So), who is always interested in pursuing a career in showbiz. To realize her dream, Wo lies to the press and refers to Mei as "a most talented chef of the time". With Wo's help, Mei has finally landed a job as the host of a food program. In the 1930s, Bo Ching-wan and his family have come to crime infested Tong Yan Street in Bangkok. Ching-wan establishes Overseas Chinese Society of Bangkok. Ching-wan and his partners encourage good deeds and punish the baddies. The Society is in disarray as it repeatedly faces up to difficulties. There is still a long way to go before the chums find peace.

Many people die as old-fashioned tenement Wai Lei Building abruptly collapses. Engineer Sze Kwong has conducted a survey of the building. He arbitrarily investigates the incident as he reckons the building collapse is shrouded in intrigue. While the incident is being unraveled, Sze Kwong’s girlfriend Cheung Man, who is some property developer’s lawyer, dies in a traffic accident. Then his younger half sister Auyeung Ka-shun meets her death. Sze Kwong is also silenced. Sze Kwong comes round and surprisingly returns to somewhere in time before the building collapses as the deity has given him a chance to live again! Sze Kwong suspects the building collapse has something to do with property developer Hong Wing-yan and his mentor Ying Yiu-wa. He wants to prevent the disaster from happening. To avoid implicating Cheung Man and Ka-chun, Sze Kwong decides not to recognize his sister and he also does not go out with Cheung Man. He just covertly watches over the duo.
