Yellowthread Street is a 1990 ITV police procedural developed by Ranald Graham. Adapted from the novels by William Leonard Marshall, the thirteen episode series revolves around the Triad-busting cases of a group of Royal Hong Kong Police Force detectives, based in the colony’s Yellowthread precinct. Despite being a critical and ratings hit, Yellowthread Street never caught on, perhaps the result of the exotic setting and expensive production (it was shot on 35mm). It also seemed caught between two eras: conceived in the 1980s and produced at the turn of that decade, its philosophy and look seemed a little dated compared to other modern shows of the genre (i.e. The Bill).

Ever since falling in love, former triad member Ho Keisong has put his former gang life behind to become a chef. Life is good as he and his wife make a good living at their small restaurant and their daughter works as an investment banker. But their happy family life is threatened when Keisong's former triad boss Lau Cheuknam is released from prison. Not only does Cheuknam wants to pull Keisong back into the triad life, but Keisong's marriage is also on the line as his wife was Cheuknam's girlfriend before his incarceration.

Cheng Tian, Wei Jun Xuan, and Xu Xiu Ping grew up like brothers, and the three loyal friends join the HK Police Force together, specializing in anti-narcotics cases. While they were meant to reunite after busting a large-scale drug ring, Cheng Tian and Xiu Ping discover that Jun Xuan, who had gone undercover, has returned a changed person. Xiu Ping gets framed by a gang, pushing him to join hands with the corrupted Jun Xuan out of resentment. The drug war in South East Asia intensifies as a new generation of drug lords gain power and Jun Xuan clashes with Thai drug lords. The three friends find themselves in two different worlds and their brotherhood is put to test in the face of greed and corruption.
