Patience (2025)

Patience Evans works in the Criminal Records Office in the city of York. She views the world in a unique way because she has a special gift – she is autistic. Patience has a special interest in solving puzzles and a secret fascination and talent for criminology—her unique perspective allows her to connect the dots through clues in a way others simply cannot. Detective Inspector Bea Metcalf recognizes her talents and takes her under her wing. Patience helps the police tackle a series of challenging cases by bringing her unique insight to crimefighting.

Inspired by a French Hit: 'Patience' is adapted from the Franco-Belgian series 'Astrid et Raphaëlle' (also known as 'Astrid: Murder in Paris'), which follows a similar premise of a detective partnering with an autistic archivist.
York…and Belgium! While the series is set in York, England, much of the filming actually took place in Belgium, nodding to the show's Franco-Belgian origins. Locations in York included Precentor's Court, The Shambles, and York Minster.
Authentic Casting: Ella Maisy Purvis, who plays Patience Evans, is autistic and has ADHD, bringing a vital authenticity to the role. Purvis has emphasized the importance of casting neurodivergent actors in neurodivergent roles.
Ghostly Homage: Keep an ear out in the second episode; one of the suspects is named Peter Venkman, a nod to Bill Murray's character in 'Ghostbusters'.
York as a Puzzle: Screenwriter Matt Baker noted that the city of York itself, with its maze-like streets and hidden passageways, mirrors the puzzle-solving nature of the show and Patience's character.
